Touching the molecules of life
The atomic force microscope is a relatively new investigation tool for
biology and medicine. This instrument permits a nanometric scale imaging
of biological samples in almost physiological conditions. In addition
the instrument can measure the mechanical properties of the sample and
detect specific proteins present on its surface. Our group is using this
instrument to measure the mechanical properties of living cells membrane
and to probe specific protein-protein interaction forces.
